Unfortunately, it is extremely common for packages to be stolen in my neighborhood. It happens often and quickly, with one instance of a package being stolen in the minute or less that elapsed between the delivery driver ringing the doorbell and me coming down the stairs from the third story to answer the door. (This was a wild incident, since I saw the man walking away with the package when I came to the door, and my knee-jerk reaction was to call out, "Hey! Did you get that box from over here?", but in the nicest, most customer service oriented voice I have. He turned around and looked so guilty and said no, but he very much had the air of a child caught with his hand in the cookie jar. A neighbor saw the whole incident and said the man had taken the package off my doorstep, so he dropped the package and walked off, and I was able to retrieve it.)
Most of the time the entire box is taken (which seems to me to be easiest and makes the most sense), but sometimes they open the box on the doorstep in order to decide if the contents are worth stealing, then either leave the empty box or dismantled box with the item still inside based on the decision they make.
This morning, I found an opened package scattered across my doorstep. It had obviously been looked through and found wanting by a porch thief, and I was quite curious to find out what my partner had ordered that the thieves decided was not worth their time.
It was a 20th Anniversary Salad Fingers plush. 😆
I didn't take a picture of it on the porch, but I tried to re-create it inside to show my partner:

I am so amused by the thought of someone opening the package, seeing Salad Fingers' face, being like, "Oh, hell no!", then dropping the package and fleeing. I got a good laugh out of it, and it was a great way to start the day.
